“Clandestino non esiste” from neighborhood hardware store to inclusive bakery

Clandestino non esiste is a charming bakery located on Via Conte Rosso, in the Lambrate district of Milan.

Designed by Annalisa Grasselli and Matteo Rota of MARG STUDIO, Clandestino non esiste is characterized by a particularly colorful aesthetic. The architects have transformed what was for years a historic neighborhood hardware store into an authentic-looking venue that runs parallel to Via Conte Rosso, keeping the community spirit of this area of Lambrate intact.

The real stars of the show are the Colorful stoneware floors and wall tiles by Pastorelli, in the Venetian terrazzo effect decoration on a white, light base. The large-format tiles, 80x80 and 120x120, were also used to cover the counter, on which the splendid Marzocco coffee machine stands out.

The mural by Nico189 is a decorative element and an explosion of color. Inspired by the theme of sustainability, it represents some of the actions mentioned in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development approved by the UN General Assembly. It is an invitation to all Clandestino customers to lead a more sustainable life through small daily actions.  Nico189 is a designer and illustrator. His minimalist style is influenced by his background as a graffiti writer, characterized by clean lines and geometric shapes.

Clandestino may seem like a small Milanese business, but it has the power to make a big impact. Production is limited to what is necessary to meet daily demand, and the offering changes from day to day. At Clandestino, they want to implement a series of actions to help change our approach to everyday life towards a more planet-friendly way of living. In addition to providing tap water, customers can also bring their own cup or buy one to avoid wasting raw materials.

The bakery also stands out for its attention to quality and traditional baking methods. The products, made under the direction of Laura Onofrio and Matteo Andreotti, use unrefined flour and sourdough starter, with two daily bakes, including the “Clandestina” loaf, a country bread that is the icon of the bakery.
